TRIALS
The selection trials for new applicants take place across the weekend of 18/19 January. Schools will be allocated to one of 5 sessions. Details to be confirmed.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Students are assessed across four areas:
- Fitness
- Knowledge
- Skills
- Court performance
FITNESS
It is essential that candidates have a good level of speed endurance. Assessment will involve a dynamic warm up and a series of timed sprints.
KNOWLEDGE
A multiple choice test is used to assess your knowledge of the subject content on Modules 1-8 only. You are advised to revisit these modules prior to the selection sessions in January to review your knowledge.
SKILLS
Feeding, rolling and receiving are assessed in terms of both the process and the outcome. You should ensure that you undertake drills / exercises dynamically not just from a stationary position.
COURT PERFORMANCE
In this section, you will work as a base or centre (predetermined by your school) and will work as part of a team of 6 responding to the score from an umpire across a series of 3-4 games.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The margins between gaining a place and not at selection are very fine. It is essential that:
- You project confidence in everything you do; this includes your stance/posture
- You maintain the discipline we are looking for both on and off the court; this includes arriving appropriately dressed with your shirt tucked in and hair tied back. You also need to bring trainers with you that you can wear indoors (they must have clean soles). Please do not wear them on route to the venue
- You bring with you a bottle of water
- You follow instructions at all times and where you are unsure what is being asked of you that you ask for clarification
- You give your very best at all times. Remember, we can only assess you on what we see on the day regardless of what level you have reached when practising at school.
